SCHOOL INFORMATION

Welcome to the West Elementary School!  We have put together some important information that is specific to the West School.  General information is found in the Student and Parent Handbook that you will receive after school begins.

You are recognized as the most important person in your child’s educational success. Cooperation of home and school will help create a climate in which every student will be stimulated to pursue intellectual excellence throughout his/her life.

SCHOOL HOURS

The School hours are 8:30 A.M. to 2:45 P.M.  The earliest students can arrive at school is 8:00A.M.  All students must be in their classrooms by 8:30 A.M. or they are considered tardy/late.  If your child is late, they must report to the main office to be signed in.  

There are eight(8) Early Thursdays in which the students will be dismissed at 12:20 P.M. on those days.  These days will be indicated on the district and monthly calendars.   

STUDENT DROP-OFF/PICK UP PROCEDURES

Arrival

  • Children can be dropped off no earlier than 8:00 A.M. in the lower level cafeteria door.  That door will be locked at 8:25 A.M.
  • Children will be supervised on the back playground beginning at 8:15 A.M.
  • No children can be dropped off in the front entrance of the school.  Buses and teachers need to use that entrance and many walkers are using the sidewalks to make their way to school.
Dismissal

  • Children leave the school three different ways (bus, walking, car)
  • Walkers are dismissed through their grade designated doors.
K & Grade 1      (back door on the Courthouse side))
Grade 2  (middle door in the front of the school)
Grades 3 & 4     (Playground door in the back of the school)
Grade 5  (Courthouse side door in the front of the school)      
  • Buses are dismissed through the front entrance.
  • Car pool is dismissed through the lower level cafeteria door.
  • No children can be picked up through the office doors and no children will be released to walking parents through the cafeteria door.
*These procedures are in place for the safety of ALL children at the West*

CHANGES IN YOUR CHILD’S DISMISSAL PROCEDURE

If you know your child is going to be dismissed early, please send in a note indicating the time and who will be dismissing your child.  If the adult is not the child’s parent they must show a valid ID to dismiss the child.

Also, if your child will be changing how they get home from school (walk, car, or bus), please send in a note informing the teacher of that change.  

SCHOOL BREAKFAST/LUNCH

Breakfast can be purchased in the cafeteria from 8:00am – 8:25am each morning.  The cost of breakfast is $.80 per day.  

School lunch can be purchased on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.  Hot lunch is $1.75 per day and it includes milk and fruit.  The students may also buy an alternate lunch each day which varies from sandwiches, cereal to bagels.  When sending in money for your child’s lunch please put it in an envelope with your child’s name, room number, and amount of money enclosed.  

Milk for morning snacks may be purchased on a monthly basis and the cost each month will be on the calendar you receive at the beginning of that month.

Payment must be made by cash, bank check or money order payable to the Stoughton Public Schools. ~~Online payment is also available through www.mealpayplus.com.  We do not take personal checks.

A monthly school lunch menu will be sent home prior to the beginning of each month and is available on our web site. ~

ABSENCES AND TARDINESS

Please call the school office before 8:15 AM if your child is going to be absent or tardy. Give your name, child’s name, classroom number or teacher, and the reason for absence or tardiness. ~A note should be sent to the teacher when your child returns to school explaining the reason for the absence. ~If we do not hear from you on a day when your child is marked absent, a staff member will call you to verify your child’s absence. Students who are tardy MUST report to the office upon arrival.
